Sukhla Phanta is the habitant of the endangered mammals like Hispid Hare, Pygmy Hog, Barasingha and Swamp Deer.

This lake attracts animals and birds like ducks, Herons, kingfishers, storks, etc. The breathtaking view you can enjoy and capture is when thousands of water fowl gathers on the lake and hundreds of swamp deer accompanies them at evening sunset, a true fascination of nature.

Flora & Fauna

The reserve is the home of 700 species of flora, the grassland and the subtropical monsoon climate facilitates this variation in the plants.  Moreover, the exotic animals like Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Sloth Bear, Swamp Deer, Elephant and Hispid Hare are present in the reserve to attract any nature lovers. Furthermore, this reserve knows for sure how to attract the bird doters and the HD camera with its offering of 423 bird species inside the reserve, lucky you. The birds like swamp francolin, Jerdon’s bushchat, rufous-rumped grass bird, etc. are ready to welcome you with its enchanting voice and colors.


In case you are wandering what climate looks like in the reserve, the site has subtropical climate with annual rainfall of 1579 mm (62.2 in) from June to September and is highest in August. December & January are cold with the daytime temperature of 7-12 degree Celsius. The best time to explore the area is from February to March as the temperature remains between 25 degree Celsius and 35 degree Celsius.

Suklaphata Wildlife Reserve lies in the south-west corner of Nepal in the plain of the Mahakali River. It covers 115 square km of open grassland, Sal forest and other mixed deciduous forest.   1. Day 1 Kathmandu-Nepalgunj

    The first day is whole day drive from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj which is 10 hours drive. You will be provided with lunch, dinner and accommodation on this day.

  2. Day 2 Nepalgunj-Mahendra Nagar

    The second day takes you the destination. After having breakfast, we will move for Mahendra Nagar. After reaching  Mahendra Nagar, we will check in at hotel and we will start exploring the reserve. In the evening, we will enjoy the scenic beauty at the bank of Rani Tal with the fascinating birds enchant and the colors along with the swamp deer taking the sip into the water of the lake.

  3. Day 3 Sukhlphanta Exploration

    This day will give you all the chance to pamper yourself with the ever satisfying view of almighty creature. The jeep safari tour of the park will offer you the magnificent view of mammals and exotic birds. This day is chance to see more than expected.

  4. Day 4 Departure

    The forth day starts with breakfast and the packing of memories and bags and departing to onwards destination.
